Thule 635B Sonic XL Black on a Toyota Sienna
With the release of the new Thule roof boxes a couple weeks ago we have been doing quite a few installs as everyone starts gearing up for Teachers Convention, Spring Break, and of course summer holidays. Last week we installed a Thule 635B Sonic XL onto a Toyota Sienna using a Thule 450 Crossroad system with LB58 Load Bars. The Sonic XL offers 17 cubic feet of space inside the box so it’s a great size for family holidays all year round. The roof box can also carry up to 206 cm skis so it works well for downhill skis and snowboards as well as cross-country skis.
Now let’s have a look at some of the features of the Thule 635B Sonic XL:
First off the Sonic XL is designed to allow better hatch clearance on vehicles with a short roof line or a spoiler or fin attached to the rear door. The angled base and lid as well as a well-positioned mounting hardware allows the back hatch to open without hitting the box.
All the Thule Sonic roof top ski boxes are designed to be dual-side opening which allows you to access the box from either the passenger side of your vehicle as well as the driver side. This makes it very easy when loading and unloading as well as when installing and removing the box. No need for a step ladder to access hard to reach areas of the cargo box.
Thule has designed the Sonic boxes to be as aerodynamic as ever with the all new AeroNose. The pointed nose cuts through the air better than flat nose boxes resulting in less drag and less of an effect on fuel consumption. This combined with a flat base on the box allows more wind to flow beneath then box without getting caught up and causing drag. The all new Sonic ski and cargo boxes are also lighter to reserve more of the weight capacity for your gear!
Overall the Thule Sonic XL was a great fit on this Toyota Sienna and provided the customer with a lot of extra space on top of their vehicle to get gear out of the car and have more room for their family on the inside.
