Yakima Ski and Cargo Box for Mazda CX-7

The Mazda CX-7, like many other Mazda vehicles, has an integrated fixed point mounting system. You can see in the picture below that at the edge of the roof there are 4 removable plastic covers. When you remov these covers they expose a nut which a roof rack can be attached to.

First, we install the K340 Whispbar Fit Kit using the bolt hardware included with the fit kit. Once we have installed the bolts we can easily mount the Whispbar S16 Throughbars

Mounting the Whispbar Throughbar is very simple once the mounting bolts are installed. You can now set the bars onto the vehicle and attach the red wing nut onto the bolt and tighten it in place.

Before locking the rack up you will want to center the crossbars so that an equal amount of bar hangs out past the tower on either side. Once centered you can then tighten the tower onto the bar using the tool provided. You can place the locking covers onto the towers and lock with the provided SKS keys.

The Whispbar Roof Rack system is a nice, sleek, and quiet crossbar. I personally have a set of Whispbar crossbars on my Mazda 3 hatchback and I can't even tell the roof bars are there when I am driving. They are also quite low to the roof swhich helps for aerodynamics.

Now that the bars are in place it is quite easy to mount the Skybox. You will have to loosen off the hardware once removed from the packaging and then adjust them to the distance from front bar to back bar. Once the box is on the vehicle you can adjust it forward and back so that it does not make contact with the back hatch and antenna.

We normally mount skis and cargo boxes in the center of the vehicle for looks and aerodynamics. The Yakima Skybox is dual-side opening so you will have equal access from both the passenger and driver side of the vehicle.
